Professor Osvaldo Salazar, Ph.D.

Dr. Salazar, attended the University of Chile where he received the Agronomist degree in 2004. He received his post-graduate education at the Department of Soil and Environment, SLU, Sweden, where he got his Master of Science degree with major in Soil Sciences in 2003 and his PhD degree in the subject of Soil Sciences with specialisation in hydrotechnics in 2009. He got a Post-doc position at the Basic Science and Environment Department, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2010. Nowadays, he is associate professor at the Department of Soil and Engineering and Director of Postgraduate School at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, University of Chile. His interest in research are in nutrient and water management in agricultural fields, best management practices for inorganic and organic fertilisation in crop production and horticultural crops. The lines of research he is developing in collaboration with other colleagues and students include: a) studies in dissolved inorganic and organic nitrogen and carbon leaching on agricultural soils; b) mitigation measures for reducing the negative impacts of nitrogen and phosphorus diffuse pollution of water bodies; and computer modelling of the nitrogen and water dynamics in agroecosystems. In addition, he also collaborates in project focused on assessing the impact of mining activities on agricultural land and water bodies.
